Top 10: Web Design Resources

Here is a list of the ten resources I use most often when designing and developing for the web.

1. Smashing Magazine – This is a great source for design inspiration, how-to’s, best practices, and informative articles about all aspects of design. I often visit Smashing Mag to browse collections of different web elements, like search bars, navigation, or footers, and collections of sites with well-executed design.

2. Colour Lovers – Colour Lovers is a huge collection of user-submitted colors and color palettes. Whenever I need inspiration for color schemes, this is the first place I visit. There are tons of unique and out-of-the-box palettes.

3. Pattern Tap – Whenever I want to see examples and usage of a specific web design element, for example, a web form, I visit Pattern Tap. They have 45 collections of specific design elements, making it a great source for inspiration.

4. Six Revisions – Six Revisions is a great place to view collections of different site types, like blogs, portfolios, minimalistic sites, sites with black backgrounds, etc. There are also many excellent articles on design and development.

5. Spyre Studios – This design company’s website has a great blog, also containing many collections of different site types. Spyre’s blog in particular seems to have unique selections that aren’t seen on the lists of other sites.

6. Noupe – Looking for free icon sets, Jquery tutorials, free fonts, web dev tools, or pretty much anything else related to web design/development? Noupe is a virtual grab bag for all things web design.

7. CSS Tricks – This blog has an extensive list of how-to articles and tutorials for web designers. The author offers elegant and well-executed solutions for all sorts of web design dilemmas.

8. NETTUTS – Nettuts is part of a larger network of blogs that all feature very useful and high-quality tutorials. Nettuts in particular is related to mostly web development, but also contains some web design tutorials. The tuts are well-written and easy to follow, and more importantly, cover very useful techniques.

9. A List Apart – No list of web design resources would be complete without the leading authority on web usability and web standards for the web. This blog offers up the best advice and guidelines for designing standards compliant and usable sites.

10. dafont – In my opinion this is hands-down the best resource for free downloadable fonts on the web. It is differentiated from other free font sites by its excellent organization structure and its useful preview function.

Congrats on the new site! It really looks great and it appears that Adrenaline has assembled a great team. Knowing Doug I wouldn’t have expected anything less.
